Bethany
2002 Shiraz
A deep garnet, almost black colour. The aroma is quite outstanding, followed by the rich, ripe blackberry and plum flavours, fully expressive of Barossa shiraz and in particular of the Schrapel family's flagship red. In the mouth it is full-bodied and luscious with great depth of varietal flavour, whilst the lingering finish displays seamless rich fruit, soft tannins and well integrated natural acidity. It will go well with all red meat dishes and full flavoured cheeses and it is especially enjoyable with oxtail braised in red wine (Bethany of course) Meat and sweet compotes of stonefruit, raspberry and mintyness, coddled by milky, cocoay oak. Long and giving, excellent varietal profiles, yielding, restrained, tannins!

From vines up to forty years of age grown to the precious Schrapel Vineyards, with batches from neighbour's blocks in the Barossa and higher Eden Valleys. The flagship of the Schrapel family reds, and the style which has made the Barossa famous for Shiraz wines the world over. "Sultry, slurpable shiraz, fine and ripe, combining exemplary definition with remarkable approachability. Suitably plummy, it melts on the palate to chocolatey oak, mulberry and bright vibrant flavours, before finishing smooth, sweet and satisfying!" -Winewrite.com.au

Sandalford Estate Reserve
2004 Shiraz
Lots of clove and nutmeg from the oak, rich black fruits, dark chocolate, some sweet dark earth and tobacco. Lots of earthy ripe savoury shiraz character. Sweet, boisterous, overweight red, kept tight by chunky, blocky tannins.

95/100 points - "Fairly robust and powerful shiraz showing quite a deal of edgy oak just at the moment. The dense rich palate delivers with lots of earthy ripe savoury shiraz character. Toasty mocha oak works beautifully and with a little more time it will be a beauty." Ray Jordon 2008 Australian Wine Guide Gold Medal - 2007 New Zealand Itnl Wine Show 4WPMTP - 92 points
